Joint Venture to Design New Strabane Health and Care Centre in West Tyrone

Arcadis, the global leader in sustainable design and consultancy for natural and built assets, along with its joint venture partner Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects (Belfast), is proud to announce its joint appointment under a framework with the Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust). This appointment will see the team act as the lead organisations of the Integrated Consultant Team (ICT) in the delivery of the new Strabane Health and Care Centre in County Tyrone.

The development of this purpose-built facility is part of the wider £113 million Strabane Town Centre Regeneration Programme, and will provide a state-of-the-art facility for delivering high-quality integrated primary and community care to the catchment area of Strabane and beyond.

The Western Trust provides services across 4,842 sq. km of geography and delivers services from a number of hospitals, community-based settings and directly into individuals’ homes. These services span acute and community care, mental health, learning and physical and sensory disability, children’s services and social care services to over 300,000 people living in the West of Northern Ireland, covering Limavady, Derry, Strabane, Omagh and Fermanagh.

The Strabane Health and Care Centre will be a vital asset to the local community, bringing together a range of health and social care services under one roof in a modern, accessible environment; designed to meet the evolving needs of the local population.

Dr Maura O’Neill, Director of Community and Older Peoples Services for the Western Trust and Senior Responsible Officer for the project said, This exciting new development will enable both the Western Trust and the GP Medical Practices to be co-located within one facility, supporting integrated service delivery, improving accessibility and delivery of services for patients.

This is an excellent example of partnership working, where the Trust and other government bodies are working together to deliver significant regeneration projects in Strabane through the City Deal Programme. The appointment of the Western Trust’s Integrated Consultancy Team is an important milestone in this programme.”

This joint venture will deliver multidisciplinary services as the ICT leads provide architecture, BIM management and healthcare planning services, whilst primary supply chain partner Tetra Tech provides project management, cost management and engineering services. This collaborative approach will ensure the facility is not only fit-for-purpose for today, but is future-proofed for generations to come.

Justin Harris, Global Practice Group Director, Healthcare at Arcadis said,At Arcadis, our core mission is to improve the quality of life for people in the communities we serve. We are delighted to be working alongside the Western Health and Social Care Trust and our partners at Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects to deliver a facility that will transform how healthcare is accessed in Strabane.
