Ambitious upgrade supports agency’s vision for reliable and efficient transit for millions across Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES – June 2, 2026 – Arcadis, a global leader in intelligence-driven sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets, today announced its selection as a partner for Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (LA Metro) Advanced Transit Management System II (ATMSII) project. Arcadis will provide critical program management, technical expertise and oversight as LA Metro undertakes a full-scale replacement of its primary transit fleet management and communications systems. The project is valued at $4.2 million with work contracted from January 2026 to December 2030.
The ATMSII project will modernize fleet management and communications for LA Metro’s 2,200 bus fleet, support vehicles, radio and yard management systems and Voice-over-IP mobile communications. The project also includes a phased implementation for more than 500 rail vehicles, with an aim to improve operational efficiency and resiliency for one of the nation’s largest transit agencies.
As a partner to prime contractor Intueor Consulting, Arcadis will deliver program management, technical subject matter expertise, transit systems and communications solutions, data integrations and risk management and testing oversight. ATMSII’s goal is to address the urgent need to replace LA Metro’s aging fleet system. By delivering accurate, real-time information and resilient operations, the new system will:
- Improve the public’s perception of transit as a reliable transportation option
- Enhance customer information accuracy and accessibility
- Enable timely responses to service disruptions
- Support more effective, efficient transit services for the local community
