Infrastructure milestone delivers safer, smarter and sustainable travel for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists in Metro Atlanta
Arcadis, a global leader in intelligence-driven sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets, celebrated the grand opening of the South Barrett Reliever, a key infrastructure milestone in Metro Atlanta.
The centerpiece of South Barrett Reliever project’s third phase is the newly completed bridge spanning I-75 and the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes. Originally envisioned in a master plan developed over 20 years ago, the project has now become reality thanks to sustained collaboration and investment among local, state, regional and federal partners.
Designed to alleviate chronic congestion on the Ernest Barrett Parkway, the bridge provides a vital bypass, improving access across Kennesaw’s main commercial district. Projections anticipate a 22% reduction in traffic volume along Barrett Parkway, significantly enhancing safety and accessibility for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, and making the Town Center area more navigable for all.
Tyler Denning, National Roadway Discipline Lead at Arcadis, said: “This bypass is truly a game changer for Cobb County. It represents years of dedicated planning, partnership and a shared vision for a more connected community.”
The South Barrett Reliever project encompasses the bridge, as well as an enhanced approach to mobility. Featuring road realignments, new roundabouts, sidewalks, and streetscapes, the infrastructure helps advance Cobb County’s commitment to smart, sustainable infrastructure.
Patrick Pecot, Bridge Lead from Arcadis, said: “It’s an honor to have played a pivotal role in this transformative endeavor, reaffirming Arcadis’ commitment to delivering resilient, future-ready infrastructure solutions.”
