Arcadis, a global leader in intelligence-driven sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets, today announced that Stu Appelbaum, national technical expert within the company's water management practice, has received the 2025 Civil Works Planning Awards Lifetime Planning Achievement Award.
The honor recognizes planning professionals whose careers have made outstanding contributions to civil works planning and environmental stewardship. Appelbaum was recognized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a trailblazer renowned for his contributions to watershed-scale ecosystem restoration over a distinguished 34-year career. His key leadership roles include supporting the Kissimmee River Restoration and the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, two landmark initiatives that have shaped ecosystem restoration efforts in the United States.

Appelbaum has more than three decades of experience in water resources planning, ecosystem restoration, flood risk management, resilience, and adaptive management. At Arcadis, he advises clients on large-scale water resources, resilience, and ecosystem restoration projects nationwide, helping communities address increasing environmental and climate-related challenges. His expertise spans plan formulation, economic analysis, ecosystem restoration, flood risk management, policy development, and stakeholder engagement.
