Arcadis launches International Noise Forecast App

Arcadis has announced the global launch of its innovative noise forecast app, noiseforecast.app.

Designed to enhance community acceptance and optimize communication and noise management strategies for wind projects, the app is now available in five languages - Dutch, English, French, German, and Spanish - with additional languages to be released soon.

Since its introduction in the Netherlands in 2017, noiseforecast.app has been successfully implemented for over 100 wind turbines and more than 17,000 homes, earning the satisfaction of wind turbine operators, local authorities, and communities alike. The app is now ready for international deployment, offering a practical tool for noise management to wind projects worldwide.

The app empowers wind farm operators, local governments, and residents by providing transparent, location-specific forecasts of wind turbine noise and shadow flicker. Using high-resolution weather data, turbine specifications, and local environmental factors, noiseforecast.app offers 48-hour forecasts, helping residents anticipate and better cope with periods of noticeable turbine noise and shadow flicker. The app also displays energy production and avoided CO₂ emissions, highlighting wind energy’s environmental benefits.

A key feature is the integrated feedback mechanism, enabling residents to anonymously share real-time experiences and concerns using a simple annoyance scale. This feedback is correlated with environmental and operational conditions, allowing operators to identify conditions, periods and areas of heightened annoyance and implement targeted solutions. The app’s interactive nature fosters transparency and constructive dialogue, bridging the gap between residents and operators and supporting socially sustainable wind energy development.
